The Great Stone Face 1 Summary

The Great Stone Face 1 Summary : The Great Stone Face is a story about a young man named Ernest and his fascination with mountains. When he was little, his mother would tell him the story of the great stone face in the valley that was visible from their home. All of the people in the valley talked about this great stone face. Ernest learned a lot about this from the people in his neighborhood. The Great Stone Face was a mountain that had big rocks and hilltops that looked like a human’s face from far away. It is very realistic and made by nature.

When Ernest was little, his mother told him a story about the Great Stone Face. She said that one day, someone who looked like it would come to the valley and be the best man in town. This made Ernest curious. He would spend time looking at it and remembering what his mom told him about it. When he grew up, he was a quiet person and he liked to help people when he could. Without a teacher, he felt that the Great Stone Face was like his own teacher. The Great Stone Face would often give him encouragement and kindness with a smile.

There was a man named Gathergold. He left the valley to earn money. There was a rumor that he looked like the Great Stone Face. When he returned, Ernest wanted to meet him but when Ernest saw him, he turned away because his face looked mean and not nice. The Great Stone Face told him that someone would come who looks like the giant face.

In the meantime, another man joined the army and left the valley. He was a famous commander and was known in the battlefield as “Blood-and-Thunder”. When he became old and tired, he returned to his native valley. People of the valley treated him with great respect and honor. Most people thought that he looked like a person from their legend called The Great Stone Face. But when Ernest saw this General’s face, he couldn’t recognize him or agree with what most people thought about this man’s resemblance to The Great Stone Face. He still believed the Great Stone Face looked like someone else. That person would come soon, and Ernest agreed to wait for him.
