CBSE New Scheme of Assessment for Board Exams For Class X and XII

Keeping COVID 19 and its third wave in mind, CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education), after holding consultations with Government and Private Independent Schools across the country, has introduced its special Scheme of Assessment for Board Examination Class X and Class XII for the session 2021-22. Following are the highlights of this special scheme introduced on 5th July, 2021.

Highlights of Special Scheme Introduced by CBSE

Common Highlights

• Academic Session to be divided into 2 Terms with 50% Syllabus Each Term.
• Questions papers will be sent to school by CBSE
• Syllabus will be rationalized by July end.
• Schools need to maintain records religiously.
• Projects/Practicals will be conducted in more authentic way under the supervision of Observers appointed by CBSE.

Term 1

• Term 1 examination will be based on MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions), It will cover only 50% syllabus (First Half).
• Term 1 examination will be held either in the month of November or December at school itself only under the observation of  Observer appointed by CBSE.
• Duration of Term 1 examination will be 90 minutes.
• Responses of students will be captured on OMR.
• Marks of Term 1will contribute to the final result.

 

Term 2

• Term 2 examination will have questions of Formats (Case-based / Situation-based /Open-ended /Short and Long Answer Type Question, It will cover only 50% syllabus (Second Half)
• Term 2 examination will be held either in March or April at the centres fixed by CBSE.
• Duration of Term 2 examination will be 120 minutes (2 Hours).
• Marks of Term 2 will contribute to the final result

 

 

What if the Situation of Pandemic Improves

Both Term 1 and Term 2 Examinations would be conducted at schools/centres. Theory Marks will be distributed equally between the two exams.

 

What if the Situation of Pandemic Deteriorates

Term 1 Examination (MCQ-Based) would be taken by students either online or offline.

 

What if Pandemic Forces Complete Closure of Schools

If the schools are shut during Term 1, more weightage would be given to Term 2 for the declaration of final result.

If the schools are shut during Term 2, more weightage would be given to Term 1 for the declaration of final result.

 

Pros of This Scheme

• Exams has been divided into two terms. It will be easier for students to study a limited syllabus and score higher.
• Term 1 will be based on MCQs. That will add a lot to students score for it is easier than descriptive exam.

 

Cons of This Scheme

• Students will be more stressed for he/she will have to appear in two Board Examinations firstly in November/December and secondly in March/April.
